About Us
For almost 40 years Archie J. Smith, tennis
professional for the city of Florence, has been involved in
learning the art of tennis. Now, he is sharing what he has
learned. Here are a few of the highlights from over the years:
1962 Picked up a racquet for the first time; played junior tournaments ranked #8 in SC; played for three years on high school team and only lost 2 matches during that time.
1969 Received tennis scholarship to play tennis at the University of South Carolina and lettered.
1977 Attended Van der Meer's Tennis University and became a certified member of the Professional Tennis Registry. Became Tennis Pro and Program Associate at the Florence Family YMCA.
1978 Attended National Tennis Teachers Conference in New York City; became a Certified member of the United States Professional Tennis Association.
1979 Hired as Tennis Professional for the City of Florence Recreation Department; attended National Tennis Teachers Conference in New York City.
1983 Attended United States Tennis Association Tennis Teachers Workshop in Miami.
1986 Attended United States Professional Tennis Registry International Symposium at Hilton Head Island.
1989 City of Florence Employee of the Year.
1999 Attended a Sports Training
Conference in Tyler, Texas on SAQ (speed, agility & quickness)
instruction; attended the United States Professional Tennis
Association National Convention in Miami.
